North Texas hired Clemson assistant Shanice Stephens as women's basketball coach Wednesday. Stephens was associate head coach at Clemson for three seasons after spending nine years at Rice. South Carolina women's basketball coach Susan Walvius announced her resignation Monday. She will step down May 31, athletics department officials said in a release. Walvius went 165-160 and 51-103 in the Southeastern Conference in 11 seasons with the Gamecocks. She made the NCAA tournament twice, advancing to the regional finals in 2002. |

Freshman Vicki Baugh tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during Tennessee's NCAA championship win over Stanford. Head trainer Jenny Moshak said Friday an MRI confirmed the torn ACL. Cathy Inglese resigned as women's basketball coach at Boston College on Thursday night, stepping down after 15 seasons with the Eagles. Candace Parker came to Tennessee four years ago with one goal in mind: Restore the Lady Vols back to the Rocky Top. Parker was part of the highest rated-recruiting class when she got to Tennessee. Television ratings for the women's NCAA championship game and the entire tournament were up from last year. Tennessee's 64-48 victory over Stanford on ESPN on Tuesday night earned a 3.0 rating, up 30 percent from the 2.3 for last season's Tennessee-Rutgers game. For the entire tournament, games on ESPN averaged a 1.4 rating, compared with 1.0 in 2007. |
